Educating South Sudan’s Orphaned Kids

After the passing of a great leader, we are left with both a profound sense of loss and a powerful responsibility: to ensure their life’s work continues. The late Bishop Paride Taban, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, was a father to the nation, a shepherd to his people, and, most importantly, a steadfast guardian to South Sudan’s most vulnerable children.

To honor his memory, we are not simply building a statue or naming a hall. We are continuing his most personal mission. The Bishop Paride Taban Educational Foundation (BPTEF) is a living, breathing tribute, established to carry forward his unwavering belief that education is the ultimate tool for peace and reconciliation. Our inaugural project is the creation of a Girls Orphanage School in Nimule—a direct continuation of the compassionate work that defined his life.

The Shepherd’s Call: Why This Was His Mission

Bishop Taban’s commitment was not a matter of policy, but of profound personal conviction. He saw children left parentless by war and disease not as a problem to be solved, but as family to be embraced. He personally opened an orphanage school in Uganda in 1994, providing sanctuary and education to those who had lost everything. He knew then what we must act upon now: that an orphaned girl in South Sudan faces a future of immense vulnerability, often denied education and pushed toward early marriage or worse fates.

This school is our answer to the call he issued through his life. It is our promise to protect the children he loved.

More Than a School: A Sanctuary of Empowerment

The Bishop Paride Taban Girls Orphanage School will be more than just classrooms. It will be a sanctuary built on the values he lived by: Love, Forgiveness, Openness, and Loyalty.

Here, girls who have known only loss will find safety and family. They will receive:

  • Quality Education: A formal curriculum to open doors they never knew existed.
  • Essential Life Skills: The tools to become independent, self-sufficient women.
  • Healthcare and Nourishment: For their bodies as well as their minds.
  • A Legacy of Empowerment: The confidence to become leaders, healers, and peacemakers in their own communities.

This is how we truly honor a man of peace—not by remembering his words, but by acting on them. By empowering these girls, we create a ripple effect that will lower maternal mortality, strengthen local economies, and foster a generation of women who can engage in civic life.

How You Can Help Write the Next Chapter

Bishop Taban’s story does not have to end. We can help write its next, beautiful chapter. We invite you to join this living legacy. Your support will directly translate into bricks for dormitories, books for the library, salaries for dedicated teachers, and meals for growing children.

This is not charity in the ordinary sense. It is an investment in a future that Bishop Paride Taban dreamed of but did not live to see fully realized. It is a commitment to ensure that his light, which guided so many through darkness, continues to shine brightly on the faces of South Sudan’s children.

Let’s come together to build this sanctuary of hope. Any Support counts, Donate here
